Hiking Pace Planner
Most trail-time guesses come from the flat mileage and ignore the climbing. Enter your one-way distance, elevation gain, and honest fitness level to get a realistic trip time, your latest safe start time, and the turnaround time for out-and-back hikes.

How the math works
The planner uses a simplified Naismith's rule: 1 hour per 5 km of flat trail, plus 30 minutes per 300 m of climbing — scaled to your fitness level, then padded 15% for rest stops:
| Fitness | Flat pace | Per km |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | ~2 km/h | 30 min |
| Average | ~3 km/h | 20 min |
| Fit | ~4 km/h | 15 min |
| Fast | ~5 km/h | 12 min |
Climbing counts 30 minutes per 300 m of gain, applied to the one-way leg only (the descent counts as flat trail at the same pace). This is an estimate, not a guarantee — bad weather, muddy trail, or a heavy pack can all slow you down.
