Camp Kitchen Box Checklist

The camp kitchen is where forgotten gear hurts most — nobody drives back to town for a can opener. Tell us your party size and trip length, and get a complete kitchen checklist with quantities sized for your exact trip, plus checkboxes you can tick off while packing.

"Light & simple" drops the luxuries — one pot, minimal cleanup gear — for tighter packing or walk-in sites.

How the quantities are figured

  • Water: 1 gallon per person per day (drinking, cooking, rinsing). Always carry this even if camp has water — spigots break.
  • Ice: about 6 lb per person per day for a standard cooler in warm weather — half as much again if it's over 90°F.
  • Fuel: one 8-oz isobutane canister handles roughly 6 person-days of normal cooking (two hot meals a day). Round up — a half-used canister is fine, an empty one is not.
  • Trash bags: one 13-gallon bag per 2 person-days. Pack one extra; Leave No Trace means it all comes home.
